UN Peacekeeping Missions – The Challenges
The UN peacekeeping missions are a huge responsibility that requires a lot of international cooperation. The UN is the only organization that can send troops to conflict zones and maintains order there. However, despite the good intentions of the UN, these missions have not been successful in Kosovo, Kashmir, and Ukraine.
In Kosovo, the UN intervened in 1999 with a peacekeeping mission (UNMIK) to end the violence between Albanian and Serbian forces. But in 2008, violence erupted again because of disagreements over autonomy for Kosovo’s ethnic Albanian majority population.
The Kashmir Dispute
The United Nations is failing to enforce Kashmiris’ right to self-determination in Indian-Occupied Kashmir. The UN peacekeeping missions, which are meant to provide a safe environment for civilians, are not fulfilling their duties and responsibilities.
The UN has been unable to stop the violations of basic human rights in the region by the Indian troops.

Only a few countries have a monopoly in the United Nations and they control ninety percent of the world’s resources, that’s why the poor nations are getting poorer and the rich nations are getting richer and this is one of the reasons for the increasing terrorism in the world. To promote peace in the world, a fair distribution of the means has to be ensured.
Growing population and diminishing means
A serious problem in front of the United Nations is the growing population in developing countries, which no serious steps have been taken so far to control it.
Due to this increasing population, the equipment is getting less. If steps are not taken to solve this problem soon, it can also create a very disturbing situation.
Keeping all these issues in front, the United Nations needs to reset its objectives.
